Why I Teach
When I was in kindergarten, I used to come home from school and make my parents and little sister play 'school' with me. I would give them activities to do, like draw the letter I learned at school or talk about what the weather was like outside. I would give them stickers and sing songs for as long as they would let me. My mom knew from that point on that I was going to be a teacher.
I worked in summer school programs growing up and spent my college years as a paraprofessional. Working with kids has always been a passion of mine.
I love seeing my students' reactions when they are in the process of learning something new or recalling something they learned in the past. When students get that 'aha' look on their face when they accomplish something difficult, I feel giddy that I had a role in their learning. Teaching inspires me to keep learning, growing and helping others to do the same.
