Getting my Masters in Education at UB gave me the opportunity to develop useful experience as a teacher. Interning full-time for a year allowed me to gain exposure to all elementary grades and content, while putting into practice what we learned in the classroom.

Program Info

The graduate-level teacher certification program is available at UB's Bridgeport and Waterbury campuses and is offered through the School of Education.

The School of Education offers programs leading to master’s degrees and sixth-year certificates in elementary education, secondary education, educational administration and supervision, and remedial reading, as well as certification in many subject areas and school administration. The School’s doctoral program focuses on the development of experienced leaders and practitioners in both the public and private sector.

The School of Education’s shared values and beliefs for educator preparation is expressed by the following theme: The passionate, professional educator is knowledgeable about subject matter, committed to inquiry, and responsive to diversity.

The underlying beliefs of the School of Education envision professionally qualified educators who are passionate about the craft of engaging and sustaining students in their learning. The educator’s commitment to subject matter and to applying state and national teaching and learning standards leads candidates by example and inspiration rather than through force or fear. We model an “ethic of caring” and ensure that the educator’s passion of caring for each student leads to trusting and respectful relationships in a successful learning environment.

Candidates who already hold a master’s degree are eligible for the sixth year in elementary/secondary, but may still participate in the internship program.
